About the Artist: Vancouver painter Jae Dougall, inspired by the modern Dutch painters, has evolved a unique and immediately recognizable style. Her compositions have a lyrical rhythm with tilting perspectives. Starting with dark grounds, Jae surfaces to light and structure. Experiencing her paintings is like being inside jewels -- if the facets of precious gems were curved. These high-keyed post-impressionist oils on canvas are dazzling. Fluid line and lush patterning are the dominant features of her work. In many recent paintings, Jae focuses on the design qualities of frontal nudes wearing jewellery and flowers in their hair. Her still lifes and interiors are equally impressive. In the tradition of Cezanne's use of multiple perspectives and Gaugain's strong line, she incorporates pottery and china with other still life objects on her ever-tilting surfaces. Her list of private collections is extensive: Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, San Francisco, Atlanta, Gurnsey Island, England, Washington D.C., Washington State, Florida, New York, Tokyo, Taiwan, Hong Kong, New Mexico, Arizona and South Carolina. Limited edition and paper prints are available through Winn Devon and Canadian Art Prints, respectively
